Contact Lenses
You can find the right contact lenses for your unique eyes at Contemporary Eye Care! We fit all types of contact lenses, from traditional soft lenses to specialty lenses serving patients with myopia (nearsightedness), hyperopia (farsightedness), presbyopia, astigmatism, and more.
Specialty Contact Lenses
Specialty contact lenses are designed to meet your unique needs when you require more than just a standard soft contact lens. Specialty contact lenses are available in a wide range of sizes, shapes, and materials, and are custom designed to correct vision problems such as myopia, hyperopia, astigmatism, and presbyopia.
In addition, they can also be custom designed and fitted to reduce or eliminate blurred vision and distortions from conditions such as keratoconus, pellucid marginal degermation, cornea transplants, post-refractive surgery (Lasik or Radial Keratotomy (RK)), corneal dystrophies, and more.
The number one reason why patients drop out of contact lenses is due to lens discomfort. If you suffer from dry eye syndrome or another ocular surface disease or condition and have experienced discomfort with contact lenses previously, specialty contact lenses can not only correct your vision but can also provide relief from dry eye related symptoms.
Regardless of the reason, specialty contact lenses offer a safe, effective, and comfortable way for people to achieve clear and comfortable vision.
Causes of Keratoconus:
Keratoconus is a conical shaped protrusion of the cornea as a result of a non-inflammatory process. As a result, individuals with keratoconus oftentimes will need custom designed contact lenses to provide optimal visual acuity and to improve the quality of their vision. Prosthetic Iris Colored Lenses
These Prosthetic iris-colored lenses are specifically for eyes that are disfigured, diseased, or have experienced trauma. They are designed to give the eyes a more natural-looking appearance. Naturally, the iris expands and contracts to control the amount of light that enters the eye. Similar to a fingerprint, everyone has a unique iris pattern and color. Injuries or disfigurements to the iris can cause an increase in light sensitivity and glare. These lenses can help reduce light sensitivity and glare caused by a misshapen iris or iris deformity and create a more functional pupil to regulate light.
Traumatic ocular injuries can often result in photophobia and glare, as was the case for this patient who experienced a bungee cord injury with subsequent traumatic, cataracts and glaucoma. A custom hand-painted soft prosthetic contact lens was fit, significantly improving cosmesis and decreasing the photophobia and glare.
Multifocals
Are you tired of losing your reading glasses? Do you wish you could see distance and near without the use of glasses? If so, multifocal contact lenses might be for you. Modern multifocal contact lenses have the ability to provide distance, near, and intermediate vision. They can reduce or in some cases eliminate the need for reading glasses. Multifocals are available in a variety of shapes, sizes, and materials.
Custom Soft Contact Lenses
Soft contact lenses come in a variety of shapes, sizes, and prescriptions. However, there are times where a traditional soft contact lens will not fit properly on the eye or be available in the prescription needed. Custom soft contact lenses are specifically designed for the cornea and eye. Measurements obtained during the contact lens fitting process are used to design the contact lens for the unique size, shape, curvature, and prescription required. Whether the cornea is larger than normal (megalocornea), smaller than normal (microcornea), steeper than normal (keratoconus or pellucid marginal degeneration), or flatter than normal (may be the result of Lasik or RK), custom contact lenses may provide improved comfort, vision, and fit.
Myopia Management
Myopia, or nearsightedness, occurs when objects in the distance are blurry or out of focus but objects up close are clear. By 2050, it is estimated that 50% of the world’s population will be nearsighted, or myopic. Myopia occurs when the eyeball is longer than normal, which increases the risk of developing eye diseases such as retinal detachments, glaucoma, cataracts, and macular degeneration.
The goal of myopia management is to slow down or stop the progression of myopia (nearsightedness). Treatment options include eyedrops, special contact lenses such as MiSight or orthokeratology (ortho-K) (Paragon CRT), or spectacle lenses. Myopia management is most effective in children as young as 4 or 5 years of age through their teenage years.
